Fractions

Before we get into doing fraction calculations on the calculator, let's first take a look at keying in fractions and mixed numbers and converting fractions to decimals.

For a fraction, enter the numerator, push the a b/c key, then enter the denominator.
For a mixed nuber, enter the whole number, push the a b/c key, then enter the numerator, push the a b/c key again, then enter the denominator.

For example, enter 7/8 and 2 3/4 into the calculator as shown below:



To change a fraction to a decimal, enter the fraction as above, push the = (equal) key, then push the a b/c key again. To change back to a fraction, push the a b/c again.

To change a fraction to a mixed number, enter the mixed number as above, push the the Shift key, then push the a b/c key. To change back to a proper fraction, push the a b/c key again.

For example, follow the animation below as 6 7/8 is changed to a decimal and an improper fraction.

Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing Fractions
Enter the first fraction into the calculator as shown above, press the +/-/*/÷ key, then enter the second number.

When you push the = (equal) key, the calculator will automatically reduce the fraction for you. If you need the fraction in a different form, decimal or improper fraction, follow the steps from above.

You also don't have to worry about common denominators with the calculator because the calculator does that for you, too (cool, eh?).

Sometimes you may get a mixed problem, one that has a fraction with a decimal. When this is the case, the calculator will always give you the answer in decimal form.
